About the North Island

Mårup Østerstrand
In this beautiful plantation area, you will find the best sandy beach on the North Island. The bay from Lilleøre to Issehoved has a lovely sandy beach all the way, and in the sea, there is the opportunity for windsurfing and paddleboarding.

In Mårup village, about 2 km away, there is a well-stocked and newly renovated Dagli' Brugs grocery store, which is open every day of the year. There is also a bike rental right across from the store, and in and around the village, you will find cafes and roadside stands with locally grown vegetables. Continuing due west, you will come to the cozy Mårup Harbor with a fish restaurant and plenty of space for pleasure boats, as well as a charming harbor environment.

Nordby
Nordby is located 2-3 km to the northwest, and the beautiful village has been previously voted Denmark's best preserved. Nordby is a charming and cozy village with a bell tower and a village pond, as well as old, fine half-timbered houses. According to an old tradition, "Summer in the village" is celebrated on the first Sunday after Pentecost, and it is a major attraction with a parade, entertainment, and music.

In Nordby, there is a centrally located playground with a pirate ship and a petanque court, and there are plenty of opportunities for coffee, pizza, sandwiches, ice cream in town, as well as a variety of Samsø specialties at the Smagen af Øen shop. At Nordby 13, you can also enjoy delicious lunch or French-Danish inspired dinner.

A little to the west of the village lies the island's highest point, Ballebjerg, which has a beautiful view of Aarhus, and to the north, one can find nothing less than the world's largest stationary Labyrinth! A must-try for all families! There are tasks for all ages to navigate through.

Farthest to the north, you will find Samsø's "branch" surrounded by beautiful hills. Here, there are both beautiful views and rich wildlife, including birds and animals.
